Witold Lutosławski and Johannes Brahms are authors to whom PRSO's Chief Conductor is bound by a strong relationship. The work of the first, an important Polish classic of the 20th century, was performed and recorded much by Alexander Liebreich when he headed up the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice. And it was the work of Johannes Brahms that he performed when he first stood before the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra. At the time he invited in his regular artistic partner, the German cellist Alban Gerhardt, who has worked with the best world-class orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam and the Chicago Symphony. Alban Gerhardt will be coming this time as well and will perform the masterpiece Concerto for Cello and Orchestra, which Witold Lutosławski composed in 1970 for the legendary Mstislav Rostropovich. After the break, the orchestra will be joined by the Prague Philharmonic Choir and a pair of top international singers in order to perform one of the most beautiful works of Johannes Brahms, the intimate German Requiem.
