French Inspiration

Marek Šedivý makes no secret of his positive relationship to French and Russian repertoires. The March concert of the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra was the proof of this.

The programme opened with Gabriel Fauré's melancholic Pavane. We were also be able to revel in the enchanting song cycle Poème de l'amour et de la mer by Ernest Chausson, the talented contemporary of Claude Debussy who tragically died before his time after falling from a bicycle.

The second half of the evening comprised a complete performance of the "fairytale" ballet The Firebird, which stood at the inception of the prolific collaboration between Igor Stravinsky and the impresario of Russian ballet Sergei Diaghilev.

Gabriel Fauré: Pavane, Op. 50

Ernest Chausson: Poème de l'amour et de la mer, op. 19
