PRSO Performing at Prague Spring 2020
The Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra is to perform two concerts at our oldest and most revered music festival, Prague Spring.
On Friday, May 15, the PRSO will perform a concert at the Municipal House that the organisers themselves characterise as “perhaps the most provocative”. Its strapline is Christ and Antichrist, with Chief Conductor Alexander Liebreich taking charge of the “dramaturgy of the conflict”. During the course of one evening, the audience will hear Beethoven’s oratorio Christ on the Mount of Olives and Richard Strauss’s symphonic poem Thus Spoke Zarathustra, inspired by Friedrich Nietzsche’s novel. The solos will be sung by soprano Simona Houda Šaturová, tenor Bernhard Berchtold and baritone Stephan Genz. The Prague Philharmonic Choir will perform under choirmaster Jozef Chabroň.
A week later, also at the Municipal House, PRSO will partner up with Robert Kružík, a festival debutant from the ranks of young, distinct conductors. He earned great renown as a regular guest conductor of the Brno Philharmonic and as a conductor at the Janáček Opera and National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava, where he has mastered a broad repertoire. He has yet to make his Prague debut, however. Prague Spring has teamed him up with amazing trombonist Christian Lindberg from Sweden, who in autumn 2016 performed the triple role of virtuoso-director-composer at a seasonal PRSO concert as well. Their reunion will be all the more joyful, this time on festival grounds. Robert Kružík will conduct the works of Rimsky-Korsakov, Richard Strauss and, of course, Christian Lindberg on Friday, May 22.
