The season’s Resident Artist Jean-Guihen Queyras will be performing twice at this April concert. He will open with the suite from the neoclassical ballet Pulcinella, in which Stravinsky “stole” from the work of Pergolesi and other Italian masters in his inimitable way. This will be followed by a staple if the cello repertoire, Joseph Haydn’s Concerto No. 1, which Queyras recorded on compact disk with the renowned Freiburger Chamber Orchestra. After the break he will return to the podium of Dvořák Hall to perform, together with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, the spectacular tone poem for violoncello and orchestra with a viola solo, Don Quixote, in which Richard Strauss found inspiration in the classic novel by Miguel de Cervantes.
