The complete symphonies of the classic of Czech post-war modernism, Miloslav Kabeláč, under the baton of Marko Ivanović, is one of the most important recording projects by the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra. The current Chief Conductor of the Janáček Opera will begin the concert in the Rudolfinum’s Dvořák Hall with Kabeláč’s cycle of nine masterful miniatures entitled Reflections. At the same time that Kabeláč was composing this work, Dmitri Shostakovich wrote his second Cello Concerto for Mstislav Rostropovich. The dark and grotesque work beginning with a monologue of the solo instrument will be played by the young cello concertmaster of the Czech Philharmonic, Václav Petr. Then the evening will culminate with another work by a Russian composer, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5.
